Tell us about your community initiative...

With a continual focus on improving environmental outcomes for the communities in which we operate, the concept for the On-site Effluent Dumping (OED) system was created to ensure that effluent was being treated on-site in a responsible manner. This sustainability initiative also assists our suppliers and transport carriers with their compliance requirements.

The OED system is an in-ground, concrete pit where livestock trucks can empty their effluent belly tanks. The effluent is then flushed from the pit, using high pressure water flow, into the existing on-site effluent treatment system.

This facility also serves as an undercarriage cleaning station for other vehicles and equipment. As the vehicle drives over the grate, a system of water jets are key activated to wash the vehicles’ undercarriage.

What impact is the initiative having on the local community?

Effluent Dumping System

As a result of this initiative the local community, suppliers and carriers can be assured that we are disposing of effluent in an efficient, responsible, and environmentally sustainable manner. We are also minimising our water consumption by limiting the water flow for each dumping cycle to 3 minutes.

Undercarriage Cleaning System

For Teys, the safety of our people is a top priority. As a result of including an undercarriage washing system in the effluent dumping system, we have been able to increase safety and engagement for our staff when cleaning underneath vehicles and equipment and performing maintenance.
