Koojan Downs feeding facility is located 25kms from Moora and 160kms north of Perth. Koojan Downs is part of the integrated beef supply chain for Harvest Road. This integrated beef supply chain ranges from north to southwest of Western Australia and is based on best-practice ecological planning and animal welfare management.
Opportunity:
We are currently seeking enthusiastic and energetic Pen-Riders to join our expanding business. Working on a 10:4 permanent roster, you will be a part of a team to operate the feeding facility near Moora, WA. This is WA’s largest feeding facility and is designed to supply Harvest Road’s processing facility, Harvey Beef.
Reporting to the Livestock Manager this opportunity will suit a self-motivated person who is hands on and is passionate about the agriculture industry. You will have a strong work ethic and be willing to learn and contribute to the team.
Please note:
• You will need to be an experienced horse rider.
• These are permanent positions, those on short term/working holiday visas will not be considered.
• You will need to have a current driver’s licence and own transport.
Key Responsibilities of the role:
• Carrying out all day-to-day livestock operations at Koojan Downs, including stock husbandry and all aspects of cattle health.
• Ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Communication with the other members of the crew and facility management.
• Unload and load cattle into and out of the facility for processing.
• Supporting the Livestock Manager to coordinate and perform the movement of cattle.
• Recording of cattle movements and treatments in livestock management software.
• Ability to pen ride to observe the welfare of the animals daily.
• Administering medicine or performing simple welfare tasks on an animal.
• Ability to undertake autopsy of deceased animals to identify cause of death.
• Other duties as required.
Ideal skillset:
• Must be a capable and experienced horse rider with at least 12 months of experience.
• Must have a driver’s licence and own transport.
• Willingness to work on a roster basis (10:4).
• Agricultural knowledge and cattle experience essential.
• Constantly demonstrate commitment to safe working practices and animal welfare.
• Able to work autonomously or as part of a team.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will play a key role in the daily operation of equipment; including loaders, trucks, telehandlers, light vehicles and other machinery carrying out tasks such as pen cleaning, composting and small earthmoving tasks. This position will suit someone who is self-motivated and willing to relocate to a rural environment (this is a 10:4 roster) and work within a tight well-supported and team driven environment.
You will have:
• Current driver’s licence (Preferably minimum HR, with HC or MC licence highly regarded).
• Previous experience with machinery including using a loader and skid steer loader with a focus on safety.
• High attention to detail.
• Good mechanical knowledge.

PEN RIDER/ LIVESTOCK HAND
Gundamain is looking to add someone to our livestock team! If you have an interest in cattle and horses this is the position for you. Gundamain is a family-owned agricultural operation in Eugowra, Central West NSW. Gundamain consists of a 6000 head licensed cattle feedlot, with farming land for cropping, backgrounding, prime lamb production and an Angus breeding herd.
Our vision is to continue to be a fully sustainable, adaptive, and resilient intergenerational agribusiness producing high quality food and fibre. In addition our values prioritise our community, our people and their safety while providing respect for and care of the land and our animals.
Gundamain is seeking someone with a passion for cattle and their health. The role includes pen riding, yard work, hospital, mustering, and general health checks.
We provide:
On the job training
Ability to keep horses on-site
Horse feed and care (Lucerne hay, farrier, chiro, Equi-scener, dentist, worming etc).
Monday- Friday roster, one weekend worked a month with four days off the following week
Accomodation (if required)
Job stability with the opportunity to grow within the business.
Above award wages (remuneration is dependant on experience).
A fortnightly horse and saddle allowance.
We require you to:
Have a strong work ethic
Work well within a team
Have two sound horses ready to work
Have a strong animal welfare ethic for both horses and cattle
Have sound riding skills
This position is in a fun, hardworking team. We will be very sad to see one of our team members move North.
