Next-Gen Forum will bring emerging leaders together this week

The Australian Lot Feeders’ Association (ALFA) will welcome more than 200 delegates to Toowoomba this Wednesday, 17 September, for the inaugural Future Feeders Network (FFN) Forum at The Empire Theatre in Toowoomba, QLD.

Launched at ALFA’s BeefEx Conference in late 2024, the Future Feeders Network is a national platform for young professionals under 35 working in the feedlot sector. The network aims to connect, support, and empower the next generation of leaders in Australia’s grain fed beef industry.  ALFA President, Grant Garey, said the event highlights ALFA’s commitment to building a strong workforce for the future.

“Attracting and retaining talent is one of the most important challenges facing our industry, and initiatives like this play a key role in building a strong, connected, and capable workforce,” Mr Garey said.

The program, developed by the FFN Committee chaired by Tim Mitchell, is designed to give the next generation of lot feeders the skills, insights and networks they need to succeed.

The FFN Committee, established in January 2025, includes:

  • Tim Mitchell – Drury Farming Company Pty Ltd – Condabri Feedlot (FFN Committee Chair)

  • April Kratzmann – Smithfield Cattle Company

  • Brianna Meacle – NH Foods – Whyalla Beef

  • Caitlin Herbert – Gundamain Pastoral Company

  • Edwina Warby – Black Box Co

  • Kassandra Lees – McIntyre Agriculture – Mooramanna Feedlot

  • Tom Harrington – Australian Country Choice

Delegates can look forward to a full day of engaging sessions, interactive panels, and networking opportunities hosted by MC and Nuffield Scholar Claire Taylor. Designed to inspire and equip the next generation of lot feeders, they will hear directly from industry leaders on topics such as the power of mentorship and networking, shaping your career narrative, skills for the future and more.  The forum promises practical insights, thought-provoking discussions, and connections that will help shape the future of Australia’s grainfed beef sector.

The program will conclude with an evening soirée networking function, giving attendees the chance to connect with peers and industry leaders.

“This week is all about bringing young people in the industry together, learning from each other and building confidence for the future,” said FFN Committee Chair, Tim Mitchell. “It’s shaping up to be an energising day and we can’t wait to see everyone there.”

The forum also coincides with the Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) R&D Symposium, held at the same venue on Thursday, 18 September, providing delegates with a unique opportunity to extend their professional development across both events.
