Group Training Session - Foundations of Pen Riding (Nov 1)



Join resident facilitator, Jeff House, live as he guides you and the team through the module on Foundations of Pen Riding, the first module within the Fundamentals of Pen Riding Complete Course on Feedlot TECH. The access fee is per feedlot/business, and covers all staff that wish to partake in the training session. Date: Wednesday, 1st of November 2023 Time: 2:30 - 3:30pm (AEST) / 3:30 - 4:30pm (AEDT)

Post registration, you will receive a zoom link to save to your calendar and access the training. Those who attend and participate in the session will have their Feedlot TECH training transcript updated automatically. Explore the fundamental principles of pen riding in this online course, and discover how to prioritise cattle health and wellbeing, effectively identify issues and use low-stress handling techniques to positively influence welfare outcomes for the cattle at your feedlot.


This online course covers the core principles of pen riding. After completion of the online training, an on the ground competency assessment is available so you can demonstrate your skills and competency in this area. Learning outcomes and competencies By the end of this module, you will know how to:

  • Apply basic pen riding principles

  • Prioritise animal health and wellbeing

  • Recognise common health issues in relation to days on feed

  • Identify animals that are at greater risk of health issues

  • Use good stockmanship techniques

This E-learning series has been by funded grain-fed levies and matching federal government R&D contributions via Meat & Livestock Australia in consultation with the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association.
