GATE STOP

What's the issue/challenge?

On windy days, working with double gates can be a challenge on horseback. Often by the time the second gate is gathered, the first gate has swung open again. We needed a method of preventing gates from been moved that was easy to use on horseback.

How does the innovation/idea work?

A 1.6m long metal rod is hung in the end of each gate. When not in use, the rod is simply lifted and hooked up on the end of the gate. The rod is extended beyond the top of the gate to reduce the need to bend over from the saddle. When the gate is swung to the closed position, the rod is unhooked and dropped to peg gate in position and allow the second gate to be gathered to close.

Cost of Innovation:

1.6m long, 7mm diameter rod with welded hook, $23 each.

Enter your innovation/idea into the ALFA Award for Innovation 2021 for your chance to win prize money, and bragging rights! Entries close 1 September 2021 and can be submitted at https://www.feedlots.com.au/innovator.
