Why Antimicrobial Stewardship Matters

Antimicrobials are essential for treating and preventing disease in feedlot cattle, but their long-term effectiveness depends on how responsibly they're used. Your role in the feedlot plays a vital part in protecting cattle health and ensuring antimicrobials remain effective for the future.

This course introduces the core principles and responsibilities that support safe, responsible and compliant antimicrobial use, then shows you how to put those principles into practice in day-to-day feedlot operations.

What You'll Be Able To Do

  • Understand the core principles and responsibilities behind antimicrobial stewardship in Australian feedlots

  • Apply stewardship principles to support safe, responsible and compliant antimicrobial use

  • Use practical strategies to prevent disease and refine treatment approaches

  • Use alternatives to reduce unnecessary reliance on antimicrobials

  • Strengthen cattle health and welfare outcomes across feedlot operations
