Why did you apply for the Young Lot Feeder of the Year Award?
I am applying for this award as a way to develop my career further, creating new networks and building relationships that will benefit me both personally and professionally. The award also gives so much more then personal recognition, its recognition for the company I work for. ACC is dedicated in developing leaders in its business and the industry through opportunity, mentoring and experiences. It also gives recognition to the dedicated team I work with. The team’s hard work and commitment in using best industry practices in animal welfare, nutrition and animal handling to produce a high-quality consistent product gives me personal satisfaction in my role.
How do you hope to contribute to the industry?
Advocation for the industry using best practices, R&D projects and innovative technology, developing staff for a career in the industry, commitment to quality assurance and environmental regulations. I have a great passion for developing motivated staff that are looking for a career within the feedlot industry. Developing a high performing team has been my goal and objective over the past few years in my management role. This not only has a positive impact on the operations and performance of the business but also gives a positive influence on the perception and opportunity on the industry as a whole.
Innovation, productivity and efficiency is a high priority in my current position. Both ACC and I are dedicated to continuously improve in all aspects of a feedlot operations and to do the additional 1% every day. Technology and knowledge play a massive part in achieving productivity, however, it is also crucial to have the feedlot team buy into what we, as a business and management team, are trying to achieve. Without the feedlot team on the ground having a full understanding on why we have processes and protocols, keeping their drive and motivation in a positive direction, its not possible to achieve better results.
The overall winner of the ALFA Young Lot Feeder of the Year Award will be announced at ALFA’s BeefEx 2024 Conference held in Brisbane on 15-17 October.
