ALFA’s First Future Feeders Network Forum and Soirée Brings Australia’s Feedlot Leaders Together
The inaugural ALFA Future Feeders Network (FFN) Forum and Soirée, held on Wednesday 17 September 2025 in Toowoomba, brought together emerging and established leaders from across Australia for a day of learning, networking, and inspiration. Hosted at the Empire Theatre and followed by an evening at Gip’s Restaurant, the event showcased the strength and ambition of Australia’s feedlot workforce.
The Forum, proudly hosted by the ALFA FFN Committee in partnership with MLA, kicked off with a welcome from ALFA President Grant Garey and FFN Chair Tim Mitchell, setting the tone for a day focused on career development, industry innovation, and connection. Attendees were treated to a rich program of presentations and panel discussions, including an exploration of future trends in the feedlot industry by Jack Sher, Tom Coggan, and Darren Hamblin.
One of the day’s highlights was the session on the power of networks and mentorship, featuring Megan Krause and Jeff Dight. Their insights underscored the importance of building meaningful relationships and leveraging industry connections to accelerate career growth. Attendees also participated in an interactive leadership and storytelling workshop led by Lyndsey and Patrice Douglas from Centred for Success, gaining practical tools to craft their professional narratives and elevate their influence within the sector.
The Forum continued with sessions on collaboration between graduates and researchers, reflections from ALFA’s Recognition of Excellence awardees, and discussions on the skills employers seek for the future workforce. Speakers from across the industry, including Professor Frances Cowley, ALFA President Grant Garey, Emily Perkins, Grant Melrose, Lisa Sharp, Lauren McNally, and Dr. Matt Van Der Saag, shared insights that were both aspirational and highly practical. Claire Taylor concluded the day with an inspiring talk on changing perceptions of agriculture, drawing on her global Nuffield Scholarship experience.
The day closed with a reflective panel and Q&A session, before attendees moved to the Soirée at Gip’s Restaurant. The evening offered the perfect opportunity to celebrate the sector, forge new connections, and enjoy a relaxed social setting, rounding off a truly memorable event.
The inaugural Future Feeders Network Forum and Soirée was a powerful reminder of the energy, talent, and ambition within Australia’s feedlot industry. It was incredible to see participants from across the country come together, connect with peers, and learn from leading voices, all while strengthening the networks that will drive the industry forward.
