GENERAL MANAGER - FEEDLOTTING (Agri Labour, Dalby QLD)

Expanding its beef operations in Australia, purchased an 18,000 head feedlot located near Dalby on the Darling Downs, this is the company's first major asset acquisition in the Australian beef supply chain.


The Role

We are currently seeking a highly experienced General Manager (feedlotting) to lead all aspects of our client's operations


Focusing on the development and improvement of existing systems and facilities, this position plays a key role in as part of the business's executive team, where you will work collaboratively with the Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer, Sales Manager and Livestock Manager.


Building and maintaining strategic business relationships with farmers to deliver optimal returns, you will ensure production programs are managed to meet and exceed customer expectations of supply reliability, quality, food safety and consistency.


Dedicated to employing best practice cattle welfare practices, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Attract, develop and grow long term business relationships with custom feeding customers, by connecting their needs to what the business can offer them.

  • Ensure livestock inventory is managed to ensure accuracy and traceability of ownership and origin

  • Ensure production practices minimise treatments and risks to the health of livestock

  • Co-ordinate with staff and contractors responsible for livestock acquisition to control cost and ensure production program targets are achieved.

  • Ensure budgets, quality and product integrity requirements are achieved

  • Develop and support a culture that reflects organisations values, encourages high performance and individual initiative and responsibility

  • Identify opportunities for the training and development. Ensure all new staff are inducted into the workplace.

  • Ensure mill and feeding operations are efficiently run to optimises feed conversion and minimises operating costs

  • Implement facility maintenance and development programs in order to maximise efficiency, maintain a high standard of amenity and reduce operating cost of the feedlot enterprise.

  • Prepare a written monthly operational plan and deliver a written monthly report on operations and achievements

  • Develop annual operational and capital budgets, and manage expenditure within the limits set by the company's policies and procedures within approved timeframes

  • Ensure the facility is managed in accordance with the company's Environmental Management Plan and local, state and federal government regulation. Communicate to the Managing Director issues of environmental concern

  • Establish and maintain good relationships with neighbours, local government and the local community

  • Ensure the feedlot is operated within all relevant statutory laws and guidelines, and company quality system standards.

  • Perform other tasks and duties as required from time to time as required by the needs of the business.


Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar position, with proven capability in managing and running a largescale livestock enterprise.


An excellent leader who has exceptional problem-solving abilities you must be equipped with proven leadership abilities and have a hands-on approach to leading your team. Analytical with a strong business focus, you are a professional who brings to the role a broad range of knowledge and skills relating to the cattle industry.


To be considered for the role, it's important you can prove the following:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in feedlot management

  • Possess strong communication skills for successful interactions with staff, contractors and management

  • Knowledge of machinery operation and maintenance, with a good understanding of grain handling equipment

  • Budget development and strategic planning

  • Experience in the operation and management of a livestock enterprise - beef feedlot highly desirable

  • Knowledge of contemporary animal husbandry techniques.

  • Current driver's licence.

  • High computer literacy

  • Personal qualities of leadership, commitment and enthusiasm

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant agricultural science (or relatable experience)

  • Knowledge of and experience in grain feeding production
