Col. Leon “Sam” Barringer provides technical assistance to ruminant teams and plays a key role in food safety initiatives. He specialises in calf health management, epidemiology, evidence-based population medicine, disease outbreak investigation, and vaccinology.

Col. Barringer earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis in 1991. He worked in private practice for a time after graduating, and then accepted an Associate Professor position at West Virginia University (WVU). 

After six years at WVU, Col. Barringer joined Pfizer Animal Health, working as Director of Strategic Accounts in the Dairy and Feedlot Business Unit. Most recently, Dr Barringer worked for Merck Animal Health as a Technical Service Lead for the company’s top 30 strategic ruminant accounts, before beginning his current role at Diamond V in late 2016.

Additionally, Col. Barringer has also enjoyed a distinguished 30-year career in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, during which he has been deployed to 25 different countries and earnt numerous medals and awards for exemplary performance in combat. 

Col. Barringer is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Academy of Veterinary Consultants, the American Association of Bovine Practi-tioners, and has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers. He is based in Colorado.
