BeefEx: premier grainfed showcase launches

10 October 2016

The premier showcase for the grain fed beef industry, BeefEx launches tomorrow at the Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast with nearly 400 delegates registered to attend.

Hosted by the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association (ALFA), the BeefEx program is teeming with fresh content, boasting an esteemed line up of international speakers, a showcase of the latest in innovation and technology, awards to recognise excellence in the feedlot industry and an outstanding social program for delegates to network with colleagues and friends.

The international speaker line up includes Mike Thoren, the CEO of JBS Five Rivers in the USA, who will share his experiences of having over one million head of cattle on feed. Delegates will also hear from Danilo Grandini, the Global Director for Cattle Marketing and Sales from Phibro Animal Health, who will join the conference from Brazil and share insights to one of the world’s largest beef producing continents, South America. Willem Wethmar, owner and operator of Chalmar Beef in South Africa will provide his unique perspective of the South African beef market in his experience running a 25,000 head feedlot with onsite abattoir. From the Vietnamese perspective will be James Leftwich of Austrex, who will give the ground view of the live cattle market for South East Asia.

Complementing the international views will be insights from home grown speakers, including Mick Keogh from the Australian Farm Institute, who will address delegates about how consumer perceptions can shape government policy and Australian agricultural production systems.

Placing a spotlight on one of the industry’s many technological advances will be Dr Brad White from Kansas State University and Precision Animal Solutions, talking about leading technology in the battle against Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD).

The reinvigorated program will also host a number of new events and sessions, including the Business Profile Afternoon Tea, at which attendees will hear from Christopher Paspaley of the iconic Paspaley pearls who will share the company’s history, the challenges they have faced, and how they have managed to thrive in their multi sector business.

In ALFA’s commitment to attracting and fostering leaders in the lot feeding industry, the conference will also see the presentation of awards for the Performance Feeds Young Lot Feeder Achiever Award, Zoetis Education Medal and the newly established Communicate Your Research poster competition.

A highlight of the awards program will be the Elanco Feedlot of the Year, which has been judged throughout the year by AUS-MEAT and will be presented at the Elanco Gala Dinner on Wednesday 12 October.

Tess Herbert, ALFA President said that the breadth of the BeefEx program offers something for everyone, “Our industry continues to grow and prosper as lot feeders continue to listen, learn and innovate.”

“We look forward to welcoming delegates to BeefEx from across the world, and a variety of agricultural sectors,” Ms Herbert said.
