Animal Health Australia (AHA) is conducting public consultation relating to the development of the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for the Land Transport of Livestock (‘Land Transport Standards’), and its associated Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS). The Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has funded AHA to manage the development of the standards. Public consultation will close on 27 May 2008.
ALFA supports the investigation of viable energy alternatives and does not oppose the use of ethanol as a fuel nor ethanol production per se. However, ALFA strongly opposes government intervention that artificially distorts agricultural markets, including mandating ethanol content in fuels or further excise exemptions for ethanol manufacturers.
